--RBI bought gilts worth INR 100 mln via OMO in week ended Sept 26
MUMBAI – The Reserve Bank of India bought gilts worth INR 100 million through on-screen open market operations in the week ended Sept. 26, its first such purchase since a similar purchase in the week ended Jun. 20. RBI data released Friday showed the central bank bought gilts on Sept. 23 and settled on Sept. 24.
Before the INR 100-million buys in the week to Jun. 20, the central bank last bought gilts of the same quantum on-screen in the week to Mar. 21. The pattern seems to be that it buys a token amount of gilts on screen in the penultimate week before a quarter ends. The RBI's activity in the secondary market has been sporadic and minuscule since the end of January, after which it ramped up its buys through auctions. The central bank has also abstained from OMO auctions since May 19, after purchasing gilts worth over INR 5.2 trillion since January. End
