Government appoints RBI ED Shirish Murmu as deputy governor, to replace Rajeswar Rao

NEW DELHI – The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet appointed Reserve Bank of India Executive Director Shirish Chandra Murmu as deputy governor of the central bank for three years from Oct. 9, according to a release dated Sept. 27. His term coincides with the end of current Deputy Governor M. Rajeshwar Rao's term.
Murmu currently oversees the departments of supervision and the secretary's department. Rao has served as the RBI deputy governor since October 2020, with two re-appointments. He headed the departments of regulation, enforcement, risk monitoring and legal, among others. End
