RBI says received INR 2,000 currency notes worth INR 820 million in July

MUMBAI – The Reserve Bank of India Friday said it received INR 820 million of the withdrawn INR 2,000 currency notes in July. As such, the total value of INR 2,000 banknotes in circulation has declined to INR 60.17 billion as of Thursday, with 98.31% of the notes out of circulation, the RBI said.
On May 19, 2023, the central bank had withdrawn banknotes of the INR 2,000 denomination from circulation. These notes remain legal tender. Currently, the facility to deposit or exchange the notes is only open at the RBI's 19 issue offices. End
