MUMBAI – The southwest monsoon is likely to remain active over central parts of the country for the next four-five days, the India Meteorological Department said. This is likely to result in heavy to very heavy rainfall over the region. Extremely heavy rainfall is likely over east Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, the department said, for which it has issued a red alert.


The weather department expects a low to moderate risk of flash floods over a few watersheds and neighbourhood districts of east Madhya Pradesh for the next 24 hours. These include districts such Anuppur, Balaghat, Chhatarpur, Chhindwara, Damoh, Dindori, Jabalpur, Katni, Mandla, Narshimapura, Niwari, Panna, Sagar, Satna, Seoni, Shahdol, Singrauli, Tikamgarh, and Umaria.

 

The department has issued similar warnings for a few districts in west Madhya Pradesh, which include Ashoknagar, Betul, Raisen, Sehore, Shivpuri, Videsha, and Hoshangabad.

 

A low-pressure area, currently lying over southwest Gangetic West Bengal and its neighbourhood, is likely to slowly move west-northwestwards across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh in the next two days, the weather department said. Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over most parts of east and central India till Monday, the department said. Intense cloud to ground lightning is expected over Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, the weather department said. 

 

The trough is running from northeast Arabian Sea to the cyclonic circulation associated with a low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and its neighbourhood. Under its influence, heavy rainfall is likely over several parts of northwest India, the weather bureau said. Very heavy rainfall is expected over Uttarakhand on Tuesday and over east Rajasthan on Friday and Saturday, the bureau said. A wet spell with thunderstorms and lightning is seen over the western Himalayan region and over many parts of the northwestern plains in the next seven days, the bureau said.

 

Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of west India till Monday, the weather department said. Very heavy rainfall is likely over Gujarat region on Tuesday, and over Konkan, Goa, and the ghat areas of central Maharashtra on Wednesday, the department said. 

 

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of northeast India till Monday, the weather bureau said. Similar weather conditions are expected over parts of south peninsular India in the same period, the bureau said.  End
