Informist, Thursday, Jul 4, 2024

NEW DELHI – President Droupadi Murmu today prorogued both Houses of Parliament and the next session when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the full Budget for 2024-2025 (Apr-Mar) may commence only on or after Jul 18 when the mandatory condition of a gap of at least 14 days between two sessions is completed.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die on Tuesday and the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. This now enables the government to convene a fresh session any day after Jul 17. "Hon'ble President of India, on the recommendation of Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, has prorogued both the Houses of Parliament, which were adjourned sine die on 2nd and 3rd July, 2024, respectively," a government statement said today.

The special session of Parliament that saw eight sittings, had commenced on Jun 24 with new members of the 18th Lok Sabha taking oath.

Some media reports had earlier said that Sitharaman may present the Union Budget on Jul 24 in Parliament, a day after tabling the Economic Survey on Jul 23. End
