NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today participated in the Outreach Session of the Group of Seven, or G7, Summit, held at Apulia in Italy, where he was welcomed by his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni. Modi called on world leaders to give priority to the concerns of the Global South, Africa in particular, and said, "It was a matter of honour for India that African Union was admitted as a permanent member of the G20 under its presidency."

Speaking at the Outreach Session on artificial intelligence, energy, Africa and the Mediterranean, Modi emphasised on India's Artificial Intelligence Mission premised on "AI for All", and said that this technology should be aimed at fostering progress and well-being of all. He underlined that with this broader objective in mind, India was fostering international collaboration as a founding member of Global Partnership for artificial intelligence.

Modi also mentioned that India was working towards achieving the target of net zero emission by 2070.

On the sidelines of the G7 Summit, Modi held bilateral meetings with French President Macron, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to the external affairs ministry, Modi discussed ways to further strengthen partnership in areas of defence, nuclear, space, education, digital public infrastructure and critical technologies with the French president.

Modi and Macron agreed to expand cooperation in the realms of artificial intelligence, critical and emerging technologies, energy and sports, while working closely in context of the forthcoming Artificial Intelligence Summit and United Nations Oceans Conference, both to be hosted in France in 2025.

Modi also greeted Pope Francis and invited him to India. "I admire his commitment to serve people and make our planet better. Also invited him to visit India," Modi said in a post on X, formerly twitter. End
