The Stoxx Europe 600 Telecommunications index fell over 2%. Shares of UK giants Vodafone Group and BT Group fell almost 4%, while Deutsche Telecom and Airtel Africa fell over 3% and 5%, respectively. Among others, Adani Enterprises and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone rose over 2?ch compared with only marginal gains in the morning. InterGlobe Aviation maintained its gains with the stock up 2?ter Brent crude oil futures eased to around $102.5 per barrel from $110 per barrel this week.

Nestle India's shares fell nearly 4% as the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India filed three regulatory cases after finding the company prodcuts didn't meet food safety standards. Equity Alert: Most markets in Asia end higher after crude oil price declines

MUMBAI--1405 IST--Most markets in Asia ended higher Friday due to a continued decline in crude oil prices. South Korea's KOSPI outperformed other indices in the region, rising nearly 3%. Japan's Nikkei 225 and China's blue-chip CSI 300 index were up over 1?ch.

The Bank of Japan raised interest rate by 25 basis points to 1.25%, the highest in 31 years. This led to the Japanese currency weakening throughout the day. The drop in the yen helped the country's benchmark indices rise. Stable exchange rates, foreign capital inflows, and corporate governance reforms also supported the rise in stocks in Japan, as per media reports. Shares of Kioxia Holdings Corp. and Adcantest Corp. were up over 9% and 6%, respectively. Tokyo Electron closed over 4% higher.

The rise in the KOSPI was driven by a sharp rise in computer memory and chip stocks such as SK Hynix, which was up over 6%, and Samsung Electronics Co. which rose more than 3%, tracking overnight gains in US peers. Further, Brent crude oil November futures declined almost 3% to an intraday low of around $102 per barrel. The value of the contract has fallen around 6% in the last three sessions from nearly $109 per barrel.

Equity Alert: Tata group cos fall as tussle over Tata Sons listing continues

MUMBAI--1246 IST--Shares of most Tata group companies declined amid the ongoing boardroom tussle at Tata Sons. Thursday, the board of Tata Sons reappointed N. Chandrasekaran as executive chairman for a third consecutive term and approved listing the company. However, Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata came out in public against the listing and Tata Trusts even said the reappointment of Chandrasekaran was "illegal".

Shares of Tata Chemicals were down 7%, the worst hit Tata group stock. Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Tata Investment Corp., and Tata Technologies were down around 3?ch.

Thursday, the board of Tata Sons resolved to comply with the Reserve Bank of India's directive and list the company on exchanges. Market participants had cheered the move Thursday, with most Tata group stocks seeing sharp gains. Shares of Tata Chemicals and Tata Investment Corp. had closed 6.5% and 5.5% higher, respectively, while those of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles gained 4.5%.

Till Thursday, shares of Tata Chemicals and Tata Investment had risen 11-27% since news about the RBI rejecting Tata Sons' application earlier this week. Tata Motors PV was up 4.5% during the period. Following these sharp gains, Friday's selling in Tata group stocks could signal profit-taking.

The listing of Tata Sons will likely result in value unlocking of shares for Tata group companies, according to analysts. However, Noel Tata has argued against the listing of the holding company, saying it would "destroy" the character of the Tata model of business. On the other hand, arguing that the public listing of Tata Sons will strengthen accountability, Shapoorji Pallonji Mistry, the chairman of the SP Group, Friday appealed to Tata group's trustees and other stakeholders of Tata Sons to support the listing.  (Ruchira Kagita)

Equity Alert: Brokerages positive on Coforge as co aims enterprise autonomy

MUMBAI--1130 IST--Brokerages are positive about Coforge after the company conducted a webinar on "Operationalizing Enterprise Autonomy" where the information technology company highlighted its vision of moving to enterprise autonomy from artificial intelligence-assisted services. Prabhudas Lilladher Capital retained its "buy" recommendation on the stock with a share price target of INR 2,120, while JM Financial Institutional Securities maintained its "add" recommendation with a price aim of INR 1,980.

Coforge outlined enterprise autonomy as the next phase of enterprise AI, with value shifting towards proprietary context, production-scale execution, and measurable outcomes. While around two out of three of the company's clients have adopted agentic AI capabilities, only 5% are currently able to orchestrate autonomy, the company said. This reflects gaps in enterprise context, data readiness, and security. To address this, the management said its 28 agents now autonomously execute around 40% of enterprise AI cloud operations.

The company's management said it has invested in two scaling mechanisms. This includes an in-house talent engine with a 12-week academy that trains AI-native engineers into forward deployed engineers and a flywheel model that captures learnings from client deployments to enhance assets. The Momentum Blue FDE unit currently has 70–75 FDEs with a target of 150 by the end of March 2027. "The model supports its shift towards higher-value, outcome-based contracts and creates a differentiated delivery capability that is difficult to replicate," Systematix Institutional Equities said in its report. Strong deal momentum, a robust pipeline, expected record-high deal total contract value in the September quarter, and account expansion across newer verticals are likely to support industry-leading growth and market-share gains in 2026–27 (Apr-Mar) and beyond, according to Systematix.

"Management highlighted that clients are increasingly adopting a multimodel architecture, including open-source models (now at ~35% token consumption), as the capability gap between models narrows, creating opportunities around model optimization, token economics, security and governance," Prabhudas Lilladher said in its report. Coforge expects AI to expand its wallet share via greater consolidation of the client workforce, the brokerage said.

At 1118 IST, shares of Coforge were at INR 1,765.80 on the NSE, over 1% lower from Thursday. So far in the day, nearly 741,000 shares have changed hands on the exchange, higher than 542,000 shares traded till the same time Thursday.  (Arundathi A R)

Equity Alert: Benchmark indices stay higher; metal cos rise, IT cos decline

MUMBAI--1100 IST--Benchmark indices remained higher with select metal companies being major gainers. A rise of 1% in the index heavyweight HDFC Bank aided the Nifty 50 index to stay in the positive territory with marginal gains. On the other hand, a fall in Tata Group stocks and information technology stocks limited further gains.

At 1035 IST, the Nifty 50 was at 23305.30 points, up 0.2%, and the BSE Sensex was at 74423.32 points, up 0.2%. The India VIX was down nearly 3%. Almost 67% of stocks on the NSE were up, while nearly 30% were down.

In the Nifty 50, InterGlobe Aviation emerged as the top gainer, up 2%, as crude oil prices eased to $103 a barrel. Shares of Dr.Reddy's Laboratories rose nearly 2?ter the company said it had received a voluntary licence for the once-yearly HIV drug Lenacapavir and has also signed a pact with Takeda Biopharma to sell Qdenga drug in India.

Eternal and UltraTech Cement were among the top gainers, rising around 2?ch. Both have been trading in the green for the third consecutive session. Metal companies JSW Steel and Hindalco Industries were up nearly 2?ch, while Adani Enterprises gained nearly 1%. The index tracking the sector was up over 1%.

Meanwhile, after closing in the green for the previous session, Tata Group stocks gave up their gains amid the recent developments around Tata Trusts. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Consultancy Services each fell nearly 3%. Information technology stocks Wipro, HCL Technologies, Infosys, and Tech Mahindra fell 0.8-1.5%.  The Nifty IT and Nifty Consumer Durables were down over 1% and 0.2%, respectively, and were the only sectoral indices in the red.

All the broader market indices were in the green, with small-cap indices rising over 1?ch and mid-cap indices rising 0.4-0.7%. Among the sectoral indices, Nifty Realty was the top gainer and was up nearly 2%. Shares of BEML rose over 3?ter the company said it has received order of INR 54 billion from National High Speed Rail Corp. Adani Total Gas was up almost 6% and was the among the top gainers in the Nifty 500. Syrma SGS Technology, up over 8%, hit a lifetime high of INR 1,759 and was the top gaining Nifty 500 stock.  (Deesha Jadhav)

Equity Alert: Indices open higher, Nifty 50 sees selling above 23300 pts

MUMBAI--0946 IST--Headline indices opened slightly higher Friday on postive global cues. Broader markets performed better than the benchmarks, with the mid-cap indices up almost a percentage each and small-cap indices rising 0.4-0.5%. The Nifty 50 witnessed selling pressure above 23300 points. If sentiment remains weak and the Nifty 50 closes below 23400 points Friday, the index is on track to post a decline for the sixth consecutive week.

At 0930 IST, the Nifty 50 was at 23304.95 points, up 0.2%, and the BSE Sensex was at 74451.91 points, up 0.2% from Thursday. The volatility index, India VIX, was largely unchanged from the previous session.

Shares of most Tata group companies declined amid the ongoing boardroom tussle at Tata Trusts. Thursday, the board of Tata Sons reappointed N. Chandrasekaran as executive chairman for a third consecutive term. However, Noel Tata criticised this and Tata Trusts even said the reappointment was illegal. Shares of Tata Chemicals fell 7%, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Tata Investment Corp., and Tata Technologies were down around 3?ch.

For Friday, 23116 point is the immediate support for the Nifty 50 and the index may fall further if the support does not hold, Pabitro Mukherjee, deputy vice-president of research at Bajaj Broking, said in a note. The Nifty 50 could then fall more towards 23000-22800 points over the next few sessions, he said. Moves in the Nifty Bank index, which witnessed selling pressure Thursday, could be subdued throughout Friday's session. It is important for the banking index to sustain near 55800–55700 points to maintain consolidation, Mukherjee said. At 0942 IST, the Nifty Bank index was at 56203.20 points, up 0.3%.

Stocks in the information technology sector fell after shares of companies related to artificial intelligence infrastructure rose on Wall Street overnight. The Nifty IT was over 1% down with shares of Tata Consultancy Services down 3%, HCL Technologies, Infosys, and Coforge down 2?ch. All constituents of the sectoral index, except Oracle Financial Services, declined in early trade.

Upstream oil companies Oil and Natural Gas Corp. and Oil India extended losses from Friday and were a tad lower as crude oil prices eased. Shares of public oil marketing companies, Bharat Petroleum Corp., Indian Oil Corp., and Hindustan Petroleum Corp. gained modestly. Airline major and Nifty 50 constituent InterGlobe Aviation rose 2%.  (Ruchira Kagita)

Equity Alert: Benchmark indices to see some gains on positive global cues

MUMBAI--0840 IST--Indices are expected to see some gains Friday due to positive global cues. However, elevated crude oil prices may dampen sentiment and trigger selling pressure. Most Asian markets opened higher Friday and Wall Street indices closed higher Thursday. The crude oil prices and US bond yields eased from recent highs which may support the Indian market Friday.

The Brent crude oil futures eased to $104 per barrel from nearly $110 per barrel earlier this week. Oil prices remain nearly 43% higher than the pre-war level. The slightly lower oil prices aided gains in global markets, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 ending 0.6-1.0% higher, while the Nasdaq Composite ended nearly 2% higher. Sentiment in the US was also positive after the unanimous decision of the US Federal Reserve on interest rates on Wednesday, Reuters reported.

Globally, most of the Asian markets opened higher. South Korea's Kospi was the top performing index in the Asian region, up 2%. Tech-heavy Nikkei 225 and Taiwan's Taiex rose nearly 1?ch.

On Thursday, the 50-stock index ended 0.2% higher at 23270.60. The overall structure of the index remains negative, according to Vipin Kumar, senior technical and derivatives analyst at Globe Capital Market. The resistance for the index is seen around 23450-23600. "Going forward, we maintain our "sell-on-rise" trading approach as long as the index trades below this resistance zone," Kumar said.

Foreign portfolio investors continued to be the net sellers of Indian equity. On Thursday, overseas investors sold shares worth INR 32.09 billion and were net sellers for the seventh consecutive session. Analysts do not expect much healthier participation from the overseas investors as crude oil prices remain elevated. In the near term, India is not expected to remain as a favourite destination for foreign investors.  (Adhithya Aji)

Equity Alert: Most Asian indices rise tracking Wall Street; Kospi up 2%

MUMBAI--0830 IST--Most equity indices in Asia rose as a drop in crude oil prices improved market sentiment. Technology stocks in the region mirrored the rise in shares of their peers in the US overnight. South Korea's benchmark Kospi led the gains in the region, followed by Japan's Nikkei 225. The Bank of Japan raised its key interest rate by 25 basis points to 1.25%.

In South Korea, shares of SK Hynix were up over 4% while those of Samsung Electronics Co. and Samsung Electro-Mechanics rose almost 3% and 5%, respectively. In Japan, technology majors and semiconductor equipment makers rose. Shares of Advantest Corp. gained 5%, Tokyo Electron rose almost 3%, Kioxia Holdings Corp. gained 4%, and Murata Manufacturing Co. was up 2%. The Nikkei 225 rose nearly 1?ter the country's inflation slowed for the first time in four months.

Brent crude oil futures fell for the third straight session and traded around $104 per barrel. This came after fears of disruptions to supply from West Asia eased, and markets eyed efforts by US President Donald Trump to end the over-six-month-long war with Iran.

Equity Alert: US indices close higher, gains in tech stocks lend support

MUMBAI--0730 IST--US markets closed higher Thursday on the back of a fall in the treasury yields and a decline in crude oil prices. Gains in technology and semiconductor stocks supported the indices. The Nasdaq Composite outperformed its peer indices in the US while the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose a percentage each.

Shares of Nvidia, Microsoft, Qualcomm, and Amazon rose around 2?ch. Intel Corp. surged 7%, Advanced Micro Devices 6%, and Marvell Technology rose 5%. The Philadelphia SE Semiconductor Index closed over 3% higher and the S&P 500 Information Technology index gained 2%. Further, out of the 11 S&P 500 sectoral indices, only the S&P 500 Financials and the S&P 500 Consumer Staples closed in the red and that too with just a small margin.

"We're seeing interest in the areas of the market that have been hit hard in anticipation of this Fed rate hike," Reuters quoted Robert Pavlik, senior portfolio manager at Dakota Wealth in Fairfield, as saying. "...people sort of stepping in, doing a little bit of buying on the pullback," he said.

The benchmark 10-year US treasury yield fell below the 5% mark. The November futures contract of Brent crude oil also fell slightly and hovered near $105 per barrel. Crude oil prices fell after hostilities in West Asia showed signs of abating. "The market's reaction could be kind of summed up in one word: relief," CNBC quoted Robert Conzo, CEO at The Wealth Alliance, as saying.
