NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday urged the BRICS Business Council to prepare a report on removing the top 10 trade barriers among BRICS nations, support 100 BRICS startups annually to scale up in other member markets, and forge a thousand new partnerships among businesses. "Let us transform BRICS' ambitions into action and our collective strength into global solutions," Modi said while speaking at the 18th BRICS Summit. The progress of these three parameters should be reviewed every year, he said. 

Modi said India aims to reduce trade barriers within BRICS and expand business opportunities for enterprises, noting that the country has signed free trade agreements with nearly 40 countries since 2014. He added that new cooperation networks have been launched under India's BRICS presidency in sectors including agriculture, health, skills and smart grids, along with initiatives such as the BRICS Incubator Network, the BRICS MSME Portal and the BRICS Startup Innovation Fund, to enhance exchange of investment and talent among member nations.

The prime minister also said India offers an assurance of growth and stability amid global uncertainties and is emerging as a hub of new opportunities for global businesses. Modi said India is on the path of becoming a global hub for manufacturing and innovation by assuming an approach of "make in India, Innovate with India, Scale for the world." 

India currently holds the BRICS Presidency and will host the 18th Summit in New Delhi over the weekend. The bloc's other founding members are Brazil, Russia, China, and South Africa. The other member nations of the bloc are Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The bloc aims to promote unified emerging economic perspectives in multilateral forums.  End
