MUMBAI – A low pressure area formed over the north Bay of Bengal under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation during the early hours of Thursday, the India Meteorological Department said. This weather system is likely to bring very heavy rainfall over parts of west Madhya Pradesh on Saturday and over Chhattisgarh till Friday, the weather department said. It is also expected to cause very heavy rainfall over parts of Odisha on Friday. Heavy rainfall is likely over multiple parts of central and east India till Sunday.

Heavy showers over several parts of northeast India are expected till Tuesday due to the presence of the low pressure area, the weather bureau said. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely over the same regions till Monday, the bureau said. 

The formation of the low pressure system, along with the presence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over south Gujarat, is also likely to cause intense showers over parts of Gujarat and interior Maharashtra, bringing relief to the regions which have largely been dry in the past few weeks. Very heavy rainfall is expected over parts of central Maharashtra on Sunday, Gujarat region on Sunday and Monday, and over Saurashtra and Kutch on Monday, the weather bureau said. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are seen over parts of Gujarat from Saturday to Monday and over Marathwada from Friday to Sunday, the bureau said.

A western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation lies over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu, and an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northwest Uttar Pradesh. A trough runs from north Haryana to a cyclonic circulation associated with the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, the weather department said. These weather systems, along with the monsoon trough, are likely to cause heavy rainfall over parts of Uttarakhand till Sunday, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab on Monday and Tuesday, and over east Rajasthan on Sunday and Monday.

Under the influence of a trough running from south interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar, very heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Andhra Pradesh on Friday, while heavy rainfall is seen over most parts of south peninsular India till Tuesday. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 kilometres per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are also likely over parts of Andhra Pradesh till Friday.

Strong surface winds are forecast over parts of south interior Karnataka on Sunday and Monday and over Andhra Pradesh till Monday, the weather department said. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over several parts of south peninsular India till Monday, the department said.  End
