MUMBAI – India recorded 2.4 millimetre rains Thursday, 59% below the normal of 6.0 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Sept. 10, the country received 650.5 millimetres of rain, 15% below the normal of 766.6 millimetres for the period.

Of the country's four homogeneous regions, east and northeast India and central India registered "deficient" rains Thursday. While northwest India and south India received "large deficient" rains Thursday.

The east and northeast region received 48% below normal rainfall at 5.2 millimetres and central India recorded 2.8 millimetres of rainfall, 55% below normal. South India received 82% below normal rains at 0.9 millimetres and the northwest region recorded 1.7 millimetres of rainfall, 62% below normal.

Thursday, Andaman & Nicobar Islands received the most rainfall at 21.8 millimetres, followed by Odisha and Jharkhand received rainfall at 12.2 mm and 11.5 millimetres, respectively, according to the weather bureau's data. 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 26, "excess" in three, "normal" in two, "deficient" in one, and "large excess" in one. There was no rain in three subdivisions, according to the data.  End
