India Wednesday rainfall 58% below normal, season-to-date deficit at 15%, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 2.6 millimetres of rain Wednesday, 58%  below the normal of 6.1 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Sept. 9, the country received 648 millimetres of rain, 15%  below the normal of 760.6 millimetres for the period.

 

Of the country's four homogeneous regions, northwest, central, and south India registered "large deficient" rains Wednesday. However, east and northeast India received "normal" rains. The northwest region recorded 0.9 millimetres of rainfall, 82%  below normal, central India recorded 1.2 millimetres of rainfall, 82%  below normal, and south India received 67%  below normal rains at 1.5 millimetres. However, the east and northeast region received 4%  above normal rainfall at 10 millimetres.

 

Wednesday, Andaman and Nicobar Islands received the highest rainfall at 41 millimetres, followed by NMMT subdivision, which includes Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, at 19.2 millimetres, according to the weather bureau's data. Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 22, "deficient" in seven, "normal" in three, and "large excess" in two. There was no rain in two subdivisions, according to the data.  End
