Aadhaar App to enable purpose-based data sharing, says UIDAI Chairman Mishra

MUMBAI – The Aadhaar app will enable users to selectively share identity information for specific purposes, while the Unique Identification Authority of India is strengthening the platform's backend with artificial intelligence, post-quantum cryptography and stronger security architecture, Chairman Neelkanth Mishra said at the Global Fintech Fest 2026.
The app is aimed at moving Aadhaar authentication from a physical, card-based process to a digital journey, allowing users to share only the information required for a transaction instead of their complete identity details.
UIDAI's Aadhaar Vision Committee has also prepared a 10-year technology roadmap, including work on post-quantum cryptography to prepare for the possibility that advances in computing could compromise existing public-key and private-key systems, Mishra said. The authority is using AI extensively for fraud detection and has deployed technologies including facial and fingerprint-based tests.
Mishra said the authority has already improved backend error codes and conducts monthly reviews of authentication and processing failures. Pending packets, or the number of pending updates, have been reduced to around 500,000-600,000, he said. On integrating Aadhaar with other government IDs such as PAN and passports, the official said UIDAI's mandate under the Aadhaar Act is limited to identity authentication and providing identity details. Broader interoperability between government IDs would have to be addressed at the government level, he said. End
