MUMBAI – Tata Chemicals Ltd. Wednesday said its Kenyan arm, Tata Chemicals Magadi Ltd., has set up a technical committee to resolve the suspension of mining operations by the local government amicably. The executives of Tata Chemicals Magadi had a meeting with Kenya's Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs and agreed to establish a high-level technical committee to facilitate the resolution, Tata Chemicals said in an exchange filing.
The committee will be led by the country's principal secretary for mining and the chief executive officer of Tata Chemicals Magadi. The committee will take a detailed technical review of all issues related to the suspension and mining and submit a report to the cabinet secretary of mining, Kenya, according to the filing.
The Kenyan government had directed Tata Chemicals Magadi to suspend its mining operations over alleged violations of compliance related to royalty, export, and community development agreements, among others. The ministry had also directed the subsidiary to suspend exports of soda ash.
For the June quarter, Tata Chemicals had reported consolidated net profit of INR 170 million on revenues of INR 42.55 billion. At 1140 IST, its shares traded at INR 603.80 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, 0.6% lower than Tuesday. End
