HYDERABAD – Public-sector iron ore-mining major NMDC Ltd. on Tuesday signed a tripartite wage settlement with workers, paving the way for implementation of revision of wages with effect from Jan. 1, 2022, the company said in a release. The company did not provide the financial impact of the wage settlement.

NMDC has over 4,000 permanent workers on its rolls while over 5,400 contractual workers are deployed at various mining sites. The company has iron ore mining operations in Chhattisgarh and Karnataka.

The revised wage structure provides for 100?arness allowance neutralisation as on Jan. 1, 2022, a 15% minimum guaranteed benefit, and perks under the cafeteria approach at 30% of basic pay. NMDC has also introduced a special allowance equivalent to 5% of basic pay for employees posted at its Bacheli, Kirandul, Donimalai, and Panna projects. The settlement includes revisions to night-shift and other allowances.

The settlement was signed in the presence of Sonal Mishra, chief labour commissioner (central), NMDC Chairman and Managing Director Amitava Mukherjee, functional directors, and representatives of the All India NMDC Workmen Federation and other unions.

NMDC said the wage revision reaffirms its commitment to employee welfare and recognises the contribution of its non-executive employees to the company's mining operations and India's mineral security.

For the June quarter, NMDC's net profit grew nearly 2% on year to INR 20.07 billion on revenues of INR 67.95 billion, up 2.5% on year. Tuesday, its shares ended at INR 84.71 on the National Stock Exchange, up 1% from Monday.  End
