MUMBAI – India recorded 4.1 millimetres of rain Monday, 39%  below the normal of 6.7 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Sept. 7, the country received 642.9 millimetres of rain, 14%  below the normal of 748.3 millimetres for the period.

 

Of the country's four homogeneous regions, east and northeast India and south India registered "deficient" rains Monday. Central India registered "large deficient" rain. However, northwest India registered "excess" rains. The east and northeast region received 43%  below normal rainfall at 5.3 millimetres and south India recorded 56% below normal rainfall at 2.3 millimetres. Central India received 67% below normal rains at 2.7 millimetres. Meanwhile, northwest India recorded 6.1 millimetres of rainfall, 24%  above normal.

 

Monday, west Uttar Pradesh received the highest rainfall at 22.3 millimetres, followed by Uttarakhand at 20.7 millimetres, according to the weather bureau's data. Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 18, "deficient" in six, "large excess" in four, "excess" in one, and "normal" in six subdivisions. One subdivision received no rain, according to the data.  End
