NEW DELHI – An upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Bihar and adjoining areas will likely cause heavy rainfall over parts of east India, the India Meteorological Department said Monday. Intermittent heavy rains are expected over Odisha till Friday, and over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Saturday. Gangetic West Bengal will see heavy rainfall till Wednesday, while Jharkhand will see heavy rainfall Wednesday. Bihar will get heavy rainfall from Tuesday to Thursday.

A trough stretching from south Gujarat to the low-pressure area in Uttar Pradesh will likely cause heavy rainfall over east Madhya Pradesh from Tuesday to Friday and Chhattisgarh from Wednesday to Sunday, the weather bureau said. Most of north-east India will see heavy rainfall intermittently till Sunday. These rains are under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over west Assam and neighbouring areas.

The main rain-bearing monsoon trough is close to its usual position at mean sea level. A low-pressure area has moved from southwest Uttar Pradesh to central Uttar Pradesh, causing heavy rainfall over east Uttar Pradesh Tuesday and over Uttarakhand from Thursday to Sunday, the department said. Meanwhile, a western disturbance has formed as a cyclonic circulation over Kashmir and its neighbouring areas, while another western disturbance has formed as a trough over parts of northwest India, the weather bureau said.

In south India, the weather bureau has forecast heavy rainfall over Kerala and Mahe from Thursday to Saturday.  End
