NEW DELHI – The Ministry of Coal Monday said coal loading to the power sector has shown a consistent upward trend over the past four days. Coal loading rose to 444 rakes Sunday from 370 rakes Thursday, with a net addition of 74 rakes per day, the ministry said in a release. This also includes a single-day improvement of 31 rakes Sunday alone, as per the ministry. 

 

"This reflects the sustained efforts of Coal India Limited (CIL), its subsidiaries, SCCL (The Singareni Collieries Co. Ltd.) and captive mine operators to ramp up coal supply to the power sector," the ministry said. Amongst companies, nearly every coal-producing company registered an improvement in rake loading Sunday over the previous day, as per the ministry.

 

Coal loading for Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. improved by 12 rakes to 111 rakes per day Sunday, the ministry said. The captive block loading rose by six rakes to 72 rakes per day. Coal loading for Bharat Coking Coal Ltd. improved by eight rakes to 25 rakes per day and that for Northern Coalfields Ltd. improved by three rakes to 35 rakes per day Sunday, the ministry said, adding that coal loading for Private Washery (PW) & Goodsheds improved by three rakes to 42 rakes per day.

 

Central Coalfields Ltd. and South Eastern Coalfields Ltd. also registered gains of two and one rakes respectively, taking their loading to 36 rakes per day and 46 rakes per day, the release said. Meanwhile, Eastern Coalfields Ltd. and Western Coalfields Ltd. maintained their previous day's loading levels of 23 rakes per day and 29 rakes per day, respectively. As a result, total siding loading for Coal India rose to 305 rakes per day Sunday, an improvement of 26 rakes over the previous day, according to the ministry. 

 

Notably, the number of critical plants, which have stock below 25% of the normative requirement, are being closely monitored, with corrective coal supply measures already in place to further ease the position at the plants, the ministry said. Thermal power plants with critical coal stocks stood at 58 Saturday, up from 45 power plants at the beginning of September, according to a Business Standard report, which cited data from the Central Electricity Authority. The volume of coal stocks declined to 26.9 million tonnes Saturday from 28.6 million tonnes Tuesday. In the same period, the volume of coal stocks declined to 46% of the normative level from 49% of the normative level, the report said.  End
