MUMBAI – RBL Bank will raise up to $1 billion through debt through the establishment of a euro medium-term note programme, the lender informed the exchanges Monday. The board of directors of the bank approved the fundraising at a meeting earlier in the day, as per the filing.

The bank will raise the offshore funds either through foreign currency bonds, notes, or any other debt securities from time to time in one or more transactions under the programme, it said. The securities will not be sold to any investor in India, as per the filing.

The establishment of the programme comes amid the Reserve Bank of India's concessional swap window for overseas foreign currency borrowings raised in any currency, even though the swap facility will only be available in dollars. Earlier Monday, state-owned Bank of Maharashtra said it had set up a euro medium-term note programme.

The board of RBL Bank also allowed delegation of certain powers to the bank's borrowing committee to decide and undertake action required under the euro medium-term note programme and the issuance of debt.

RBL Bank had reported a net profit of INR 2.54 billion for the June quarter on a total income of INR 48 billion. At 1455 IST, its shares were at INR 416.20 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.5% from Friday.  End
