MUMBAI – The seven member countries of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies Sunday decided to keep their required oil production levels for October unchanged from September, it said in a release. The decision effectively pauses further production increases after the countries raised output by 188,000 barrels per day in September. This marks the first such hold since March. The organisation had increased output for six straight months, from April to September.

 

The seven countries, including Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman, met virtually on Sunday to review global market conditions and outlook. Last month, the countries had agreed to increase their collective production of crude oil by 188,000 barrels per day in September from 1.65 million barrels per day of additional voluntary adjustments announced in April 2023.

 

The countries reiterated their collective commitment to achieve full conformity with the Declaration of Cooperation. The seven-member countries of the organisation and their allies will meet again on Oct. 4.
