SAIL crude steel production for August up 8% on year at 1.68 million tonnes

MUMBAI – Steel Authority of India Ltd.'s crude steel production for August rose 8% on year to 1.68 million tonnes, while hot metal production was up 9% on year to 1.78 million tonnes and saleable steel production gained 1% on year to 1.69 million tonnes. The company's total sales were at 1.87 million tonnes, up 13% on year. Cash collections were also up, gaining 23% on year, as per a press release from the Ministry of Steel.
The company reported a 5% increase in rail supplies to the Indian railways at 123,000 tonnes. The ministry said the company achieved its highest-ever supply in the long rails category by giving out 112,000 tonnes, up 11% on year. SAIL's cumulative sales volumes from April to August reached 7.71 million tonnes, up 5.6% from the same period a year ago. This was supported by an improved product, stronger regional outreach, and domestic demand, the release said.
Friday, shares of Steel Authority of India ended marginally lower at INR 196.80 on the National Stock Exchange. The company reported a net profit of INR 16.36 billion for the June quarter, on revenues of INR 262.46 billion. End
