MUMBAI – India recorded 5.2 millimetres of rain Friday, 24%  below the normal of 6.8 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Sept. 4, the country received 629.7 millimetres of rain, 13%  below the normal of 727.9 millimetres for the period.

 

Of the country's four homogeneous regions, central and northwest India registered "normal" rains Friday. Eeast and northeast received "deficient" rains, and the south registered "large deficient" rains Friday. The east and northeast region received 48%  below normal rainfall at 5.4 millimetres and south India recorded 64% below normal rainfall at 1.8 millimetres. Meanwhile, central India received 9% below normal rains at 7.1 millimetres and northwest India recorded 5.2 millimetres of rainfall, 1%  below normal.

 

Friday, east Madhya Pradesh and west Madhya Pradesh received the highest rainfall at 21.9 mm and 20.9 millimetres respectively, followed by Uttarakhand at 11.4 millimetres, according to the weather bureau's data. 

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 20, "deficient" in seven, "large excess" in four, "normal" in three and "excess" in one. There was no rain in one subdivision, according to the data.  End
