Sitharaman makes case for global cos to invest in India, cites strong growth

NEW DELHI – Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman pitched India's economic growth and reform-oriented policies to attract greater investment from global financial and technology companies, in meetings with the chief executives of Tillman Holdings, Marsh Re and Bank of New York Mellon Corp. in New York, finance ministry said in a post on X. Sitharaman cited India's real GDP growth of 7.8% in the first quarter of the financial year 2026-27 (Apr-Mar), calling India the fastest-growing major economy in the world.
Sitharaman was on a six-day visit to the US, primarily to attend the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in Asheville, North Carolina.
Sitharaman met Tillman Holdings Chairman Sanjeev Ahuja and said, "India's policy design, including recent budget announcements, facilitates investment in digital infrastructure," pointing to rapid growth in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and enterprise technology that is generating demand for data centres and power infrastructure. She also met Marsh Re President Dean Klisura, according to the posts. The Marsh Re team said the company is "keen to further grow and expand its presence in India" and has strengthened its focus on Gujarat International Finance Tec-City.
The finance minister met the Chief Operating Office of Bank of New York Mellon Group, Alejandro Perez, who highlighted the company's "longstanding commitment to India" and its engagement with institutions including the Indian Institute of Technology, according to the posts. She invited the Bank of New York Mellon team to visit Gujarat International Finance Tec-City-International Financial Services Centre to explore opportunities. End
