E-waybill generation rises 7.7% in Aug but falls sequentially

NEW DELHI – The number of electronic waybills generated in August rose 7.7% on year to 139.09 million, according to data from the Goods and Services Tax Network. Sequentially, e-waybill generation fell 0.5% last month, reflecting a slowdown in activity.
In July, e-waybills generated had risen 6.0% on year to 139.79 million. An e-waybill is a GST document for the transport of goods worth more than INR 50,000 within or outside a state. The number of e-waybills generated is considered a lead indicator of economic activity and domestic trade.
An increase in e-waybills generally suggests GST collections would be robust the following month, as most transactions will be reflected in the next month's collections. India's GST collections grew 14.8% on year to INR 1.9999 trillion in August. End
