UltraTech Cement launches INR 18 billion 'Ultravolt' wires, cables business

NEW DELHI – Aditya Birla Group's UltraTech Cement Ltd. Thursday launched its wires and cables business, Ultravolt, with an investment of INR 18 billion. The company's aim is to make the business one of the top two players in the segment within five years, UltraTech Cement said in an exchange filing. 
 

Ultravolt, housed under UltraTech Cement, will already be the second-largest player in the wires segment by capacity at launch. The business will operate across more than 500 districts and 6,000 Postal Index Number codes, targeting over 100,000 retailers and more than 5,000 UltraTech Building Solutions outlets.

 

The business is anchored by a new manufacturing facility at Jhagadia in Gujarat and will initially offer home wires, flexible wires, and cables for residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure applications. Ultravolt has already onboarded more than 1,600 electricians and aims to train over 40,000 electricians over the coming year, as per the exchange filing.
 

For the June quarter, UltraTech Cement had reported a consolidated net profit of INR 25.99 billion on revenues of INR 246.48 billion. Thursday, its shares ended at INR 11,275 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, down 1% from Wednesday.   End
