Govt asks PSU non-life insurers to increase insurance penetration, outreach

NEW DELHI – The Union finance ministry has asked state-owned general insurers to improve customer outreach, including through social media, to increase awareness about various insurance products in underserved segments and areas. At a review meeting chaired by Department of Financial Services Secretary Sanjay Lohiya, the insurers were asked to increase insurance penetration and density while reducing protection gaps, as per a release.
Lohia emphasised the need to focus on profitable lines of business and adopt suitable measures to bring down the incurred claim ratio, according to the release. The non-life insurers were also asked to use technology and accelerate digitalisation of operations.
The meeting was attended by National Insurance Co. Ltd. Chairman and Managing Director Rajeshwari Singh Muni, United India Insurance Co. Ltd. Chairman and Managing Director Bhupesh S. Rahul, The Oriental Insurance Co. Ltd. Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Joshi, Agriculture Insurance Co. of India Ltd. Chairman and Managing Director Lavanya R. Mundayur, and New India Assurance Co. Ltd. Executive Director S. Sivasankar along with other senior officers of the department. End
