NEW DELHI – Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. is not planning any immediate price hikes on its vehicles, having already revised prices in May and July, Managing Director Saurabh Vatsa told Informist on the sidelines of the eighth Auto Retail Conclave hosted by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association here Tuesday. The company adjusted prices on specific models separately, with the Magnite seeing a price increase in May and the Gravite in July.

The automotive industry could witness a third wave of price increases in September due to sustained cost pressures stemming from increased raw material and energy prices, Vatsa said. While many original equipment manufacturers across the industry are evaluating hikes of 1-2%, he said Nissan is monitoring the situation closely and passed on only the bare minimum burden to its consumers. He also noted that goods and services tax reforms have helped rationalise vehicle pricing, making 1-2% price increases easier for buyers to absorb. As part of the reforms in September 2025, the government had reduced the GST on small cars to 18% from 28%.

Currently, Nissan is focusing on filling dealership pipelines with volume-heavy conventional models to maintain dealer growth and profitability, Vatsa said. While Nissan has the capability to introduce electric and hybrid vehicles, the company will roll out these technologies once demand reaches significant volume and consumers are more inclined to adopt these vehicles. "If you look at the total industry volume, non-EV and non-hybrid is about 93%, 94%. We need to play in that volume, fill up our dealerships, make our dealers healthy," he said.

As of now, the company is responding to customer preferences by introducing alternative fuel solutions such as compressed natural gas kits for the Gravite and the Magnite. "...The viability and sustainability of dealers is important. Then of course, we can keep continuing to build on other technologies."

On network growth and retail operations, Vatsa said Nissan has expanded its footprint from 155 outlets at the start of the year to 185 currently, and plans to close the financial year 2026-27 (Apr-Mar) with 230-250 outlets across the country. The company is looking to add more outlets in tier-2, tier-3, and tier-4 cities and in places where it is not present. "With more portfolio coming in, different kinds of vehicles coming in, different kinds of consumers need to be catered to," Vatsa said. "Therefore, we are going to go to different parts of the country now where we were not present."

He noted that Nissan is pacing its expansion to protect dealer margins and leverage a current base of nearly 400,000 units in operation. The company is targeting 100,000 domestic sales and 100,000 export units for FY27. Monday, the company exported 1,300 units of its newly launched Nissan Tekton to South Africa, Nepal, and Bhutan. The company continues to manage the impact of the continuing war in West Asia and shipping line challenges on a day-to-day operational basis, Vatsa said.  End
