NEW DELHI – Automobile dealers need to focus on safety and sustainability for the sector to grow, Mahmood Ahmed, additional secretary in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, said at the eighth Auto Retail Conclave hosted by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association here Tuesday.

 

"...we can educate the customer so that his decisions are then influenced by factors other than what we call as a peripheral and what we feel is core and intrinsic is the safety features," he said. 

 

Ahmed emphasised that consumers buying vehicles should be made aware of all the safety features so that they can make informed decisions. "The customer who walks into your showroom, is he or she aware about how to look at different products because different products have different purposes, they have different features, they serve different purposes in society," he said. 

 

Ahmed appealed to dealers to set up insurance desks for buyers, just as they bring in services such as financing options, so that insurance penetration can increase.  End
