Heavy rain likely over central, east India; subdued rain in south, says IMD

NEW DELHI – Central and eastern parts of the country are likely to get heavy to very heavy rainfall intermittently till the end of the week under the influence of a well-marked low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas, the India Meteorological Department said Tuesday.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Chhattisgarh on Tuesday and Wednesday, east Madhya Pradesh till Friday, and west Madhya Pradesh from Thursday to Saturday, the weather department said. In northwest India, isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh till Thursday, Uttarakhand from Wednesday till the weekend, and Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab from Wednesday till the end of the week. West Uttar Pradesh could receive heavy rainfall till the weekend, the IMD said.
In northeast India, heavy rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh intermittently till Monday, while Assam and Meghalaya will receive heavy rainfall between Wednesday and Monday. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will receive heavy rainfall till the weekend, the IMD said. Very heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.
Konkan and Goa are likely to see fairly widespread rainfall till next Monday, while thunderstorms and lightning are expected over Madhya Maharashtra during Thursday and Friday, and Marathwada on Wednesday and Thursday. Meanwhile, subdued rainfall is likely to continue over southern peninsular India during the week, IMD said. End
