India Tuesday rainfall 14% above normal; season-to-date deficit at 14%, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 7.6 millimetres of rainfall Tuesday, 14?ove the normal of 6.7 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Sept. 1, the country received 611.2 millimetres of rain, 14?low the normal of 707.4 millimetres for the period.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two recorded below-normal rainfall Tuesday while two recorded above-normal rainfall. The east and northeast, and northwest regions registered "large excess" rains. Central India received "deficient" rains and south India witnessed "large deficient" rains.
East and northeast India received 125?ove-normal rainfall at 20.9 millimetres and northwest India recorded 8.4 millimetres of rainfall, 72?ove normal. Meanwhile, central India received 42?low-normal rains at 4.7 millimetres and south India recorded 87?low-normal rainfall at 0.7 millimetres.
Jharkhand received 367?ove-normal rainfall at 38.3 millimetres, the highest in the country, followed by east Uttar Pradesh, which received 235?ove its normal 29.1 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 17, "large excess" in nine, "normal" in five, "deficient" in two, and "excess" in one. There was no rainfall in two subdivisions, according to the data. End
