--Minister Kumaraswamy: Manufacturing must be at core of country's growth

 

NEW DELHI - India must focus on manufacturing and make it the core of the country's economic growth and strength by 2047, Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy said at the eighth Auto Retail Conclave hosted by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association Tuesday.

 

"India's mobility story is no longer the story of a few cities by a few segments," Kumaraswamy said. "It runs across two-wheelers and tractors, across petrol, diesel, CNG (compressed natural gas), and electric across metropolitan India, districts, and across the whole (of) India."

The production-linked incentive scheme for automobile and auto components, with an outlay of INR 259.4 billion, has 82 approved applicants and had already drawn community investment of over INR 443 billion and generated close to 68,000 jobs. Incentives have been extended to more than 1.36 million vehicles and products are achieving a minimum of 50% domestic value addition as mandated, the minister said.

Kumaraswamy said 15,000 dealerships and over 30,000 outlets spread across the length and breadth of India are employing people in their own district, close to their own families, which has brought inclusive development in its truest form.  End
