MUMBAI – Escorts Kubota Ltd. posted a 19.1% on-year growth in its total tractor sales in August to 10,072 units, the company said in its monthly business update. The company's domestic tractor sales for August were up over 20% at 9,523 units, while its tractor exports fell to 549 units from 554 units in the same month last year.

The growth in the company's domestic tractor segment in August was supported by the broader performance of the industry. Improving monsoon conditions, progress in Kharif sowing, and stable rural sentiment helped the tractor industry maintain steady performance, the company said. The tractor industry's demand continued to be supported by expectations of better farm incomes and ongoing agricultural activity. Going forward, demand in the domestic tractor industry will likely be driven by the outcomes of the Kharif season, levels of water in reservoirs, and the festive season. However, a high base from the previous year and rising costs may put pressure on the industry's growth.

For Apr-Aug, Escorts Kubota's total tractor sales were up 20.5% on year at 55,665 units. Its domestic tractor sales were up 22.6% at 53,174 units while its tractor exports fell 11.6% to 2,491 units.

Further, the company's sales from its construction equipment business in August were up 16% on year at 435 machines. This growth was driven by continued infrastructure execution, government capital expenditure, and a healthy project pipeline, the company said. For Apr-Aug, the company's total sales from its construction equipment business rose to 2,313 machines, up 29.4% from the year-ago period.

For the June quarter, Escorts Kubota had reported a net profit of INR 3.87 billion on revenues of INR 31.79 billion. At 1015 IST, its shares traded at INR 3,020 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.8% from Monday.  End
