NEW DELHI – Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. Tuesday said it sold 107,648 automobiles to dealerships in India and overseas in August, up 42% year on year. Demand for its sports utility vehicles remained strong as it sold 59,257 cars in India in August, up 50%. Its domestic commercial vehicle despatches grew 22% on year to 27,415 units.
"Demand continues to remain strong across our portfolio, with the updated Scorpio-N and BE 6 SPORTEQ receiving strong market response from customers. We look forward to building on this momentum during the festive season," President of its automotive business Velusamy R. said in a press release.
Domestic wholesale sales of light commercial vehicles with a payload capacity under 2 tonnes grew 37% on year to 3,999 units, while those with payload capacity exceeding 2 tonnes but under 3.5 tonnes grew 20% to 23,416 units. M&M sold 14,922 three-wheelers to local dealerships in August, up 42% on year. Its overall exports grew 71% on year to 6,054 units.
FARM BUSINESS
The automaker sold 29,507 tractors across all markets in August, up 5% on year. While domestic tractor wholesale sales grew 5% year on year to 27,595 units, export sales contracted mildly to 1,912 units.
"Steady improvement in rainfall has helped near-normal kharif sowing. Continued support of various government schemes and the upcoming festive season should bolster rural sentiment," President of its farm equipment business Veejay Nakra said in the release. In Apr-Aug, the company sold 221,968 tractors, up 16% on year as domestic sales grew faster than exports.
TRUCKS, BUSES
M&M sells its trucks and buses through two divisions: its own trucks and buses business and SML Mahindra Ltd. These two divisions sold 2,495 units in August, up 47% on year. This includes sales of 1,532 cargo vehicles, up 55% on year, and 963 passenger vehicles, up 35%.
"The truck and bus segment continues to be supported by higher infrastructure spending, rising freight demand, and replacement demand, while facing challenges on rising input and fuel costs," Executive Chairman of SML Mahindra and President of M&M's aerospace, advanced technologies, trucks, buses and construction equipment division Vinod Sahay said. "Volumes were muted in August 2025 due to anticipated GST changes, and hence the growth this month also reflects the low base of last year," Sahay said.
For the June quarter, Mahindra & Mahindra reported a consolidated net profit of INR 36.85 on revenues of INR 419.59 billion. At 0935 IST, its shares traded 1.4% higher at INR 3,327.10 on the National Stock Exchange. End
