MUMBAI – National Investment and Infrastructure Fund Ltd. Monday said its Infrastructure Fund II has achieved a first close of INR 190 billion (about $2 billion), over 60% of its target size of INR 300 billion.

The first close of the fund is anchored by the government and backed by global institutional investors including AustralianSuper, CPP Investments, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, and Temasek, as well as Indian institutions such as ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Life Insurance, and HDFC Life Insurance.

NIIF expects to mobilise around INR 90 billion in co-investment capital alongside the fund. This will enable the investors to participate at scale in select transactions and further deepen NIIF's role as a partner for institutional capital seeking exposure to Indian infrastructure.

Infrastructure Fund II will invest in core sectors such as energy, transport, and digital infrastructure, while expanding into urban infrastructure and electric mobility. The fund builds on NIIF's first infrastructure fund, which raised INR 160 billion and invested across renewables, transmission, roads, ports and logistics, airports, data centres, and smart metering. End

US$1 = INR 95.16
