MUMBAI - SML Mahindra Ltd. reported a sharp 40% on-year jump in its total vehicle sales for August to 1,175 units. While passenger vehicle sales continued to account for more than half of the total units sold, cargo vehicle sales grew at a faster pace than sales of passenger vehicles. For August, the company's cargo vehicle sales grew 53% on year to 492 units, while passenger vehicle sales grew 31% to 683 units.

For Apr-Aug, the automaker's total vehicle sales grew 14% on year to 8,216 units. While passenger vehicle sales grew an appreciable 21% on year to 6,198 units, sales of cargo vehicles fell 2% to 2,018 units.

Monday, shares of SML Mahindra ended 1.5% lower at INR 5,108 on the National Stock Exchange. For the June quarter, the company had reported a net profit of INR 636.2 million, on revenues of INR 9.58 billion.  End
