MUMBAI – Upasna Bhardwaj, chief economist, Kotak Mahindra Bank said the following on India's GDP growth for the June quarter of 7.8%:
Real GDP growth remained resilient, in line with the high frequency data. However, the nominal GDP growth surprised on the downside. The economic activity continues to remain firm in the second half of financial year 2026-27 (Apr-Mar) as well. We expect robust growth and elevated inflation to prompt Reserve Bank of India to deliver 50 basis point of rate hike in second half of FY27, especially as real rates move towards negative zone and as we come closer to the Fed rate hiking cycle.
