NEW DELHI – India remains committed to conclude the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement negotiations with Chile by the end of this year, with the aim of delivering a balanced and mutually beneficial framework that provides equitable and commercially meaningful outcomes for businesses on both sides, the commerce ministry said in a press release Sunday.

Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal met Chile's Vice-Minister of International Economic Relations Paula Estvez Weinstein Wednesday in Santiago to advance negotiations on the India–Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. "Both sides emphasised the importance of building on the strong and growing India–Chile relationship and ensuring that the CEPA (Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement) translates shared objectives and aspirations into concrete and commercially meaningful opportunities for businesses on both sides," the ministry said.

India reiterated its commitment to openness, sustained engagement and a balanced approach in strengthening the India–Chile economic partnership, it said. Agarwal highlighted the "immense potential" for enhanced economic cooperation in sectors including healthcare, pharmaceuticals, energy, minerals, agriculture, machinery and engineering, it added.

The agreement is expected to open new avenues for greater trade and investment, while encouraging cooperation in technology, talent and resilient supply chains, thus, creating stronger foundations for long-term economic cooperation between India and Chile, the ministry said.

Currently, India has a preferential trade pact with Chile. India's total trade with Chile was $6.26 billion in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), with exports amounting to $1.22 billion and imports to $5.03 billion. End
