--IMD: Low to moderate flash flood risk in some Odisha, West Bengal districts

NEW DELHI – Parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha are expected to continue receiving heavy rainfall over the next few days due to the influence of a cyclonic circulation forming a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal, adjoining West Bengal, and the coast of north Odisha, the India Meteorological Department said Saturday. Gangetic West Bengal will see very heavy rainfall Sunday, Jharkhand Monday, and Odisha intermittently Monday and Tuesday, the department said.

Amid heavy rains, the weather bureau warned of a low to moderate risk of flash floods in some parts of West Bengal and Odisha for the next 24 hours. It issued a red alert for Odisha over the weekend.

The low pressure area that formed Friday over northeast Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring areas has become less marked, the department said. However, the associated cyclonic circulation now lies over east Uttar Pradesh and areas surrounding it, it added. Furthermore, a western disturbance over north Pakistan and north Punjab has become a cyclonic circulation, it said.

Due to this, there will be isolated heavy rainfall over Jammu and Kashmir and nearby areas between Monday and Wednesday. Himachal Pradesh will see similar isolated heavy rainfall between Monday and Thursday and Uttarakhand will see very heavy rainfall till Monday and heavy rainfall intermittently for most of next week. East Uttar Pradesh will see isolated heavy rainfall from Sunday to Friday. West Uttar Pradesh will see similar rainfall from Wednesday to Friday.

In central India, heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Madhya Pradesh on most days next week. Vidarbha is likely to see heavy rainfall over the weekend and on Thursday and Friday. Very heavy rainfall is expected over Chhattisgarh from Sunday to Tuesday and east Madhya Pradesh Wednesday and Thursday.

In western India, subdued rainfall is expected over the Konkan and Goa region till Friday. Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra, and Kutch will see scattered rainfall. Subdued rainfall is expected over southern peninsular India. However, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal Wednesday.  End
