KOLKATA – The Reliance Group Friday denied the "allegations and insinuations" against media entities of the group made by Essel Group Chairman Subhash Chandra. In a statement issued by Reliance Industries Ltd., a spokesperson for the group said, "The Reliance Group has noted with dismay the baseless remarks by Essel Group chairman Shri Subhash Chandra. We strongly deny the allegations and insinuations against the media entities that are a part of the Reliance Group. Our media brands have never been used to attack anyone, nor will they ever be."
The statement came after Chandra, in a televised statement earlier in the day, alleged that media entities such as the TV-18 Group, which is part of the Reliance Group, had started portraying him in a negative light. Chandra also alleged that Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, had tried to "grab Zee (Entertainment Enterprises Ltd.)", which is part of the Essel Group.
Chandra also said he has high regard for Ambani's late father and Reliance Group founder Dhirubhai Ambani and had learned a lot from him.
"We hold Shri Subhash Chandra in high regard as a businessman and entrepreneur. We wish him well," the Reliance Group spokesperson said in the terse statement.
Friday, shares of Reliance Industries closed at INR 1,287 on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.4% from Thursday. Shares of Zee Entertainment closed at INR 101.51, down 2.4%. End
