--IMD issues red alert for extremely heavy rains in Odisha Sun 

--IMD: East Madhya Pradesh may receive very heavy rains Thursday 

--IMD: Light to moderate rains likely at many places in Delhi Fri 

NEW DELHI – India Meteorological Department has forecast 'very heavy' to extremely heavy rainfall over Odisha till Monday. For the extremely heavy showers Sunday, IMD has issued a red alert and explained that these rainfall conditions are under the influence of a low pressure area formed over parts of the Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha coasts. 

Other east Indian states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, and parts of West Bengal are forecast to receive 'heavy' rainfall till the month-end. "Moderate to severe lightning activity (likely) over Bihar on 28th August," the weather department said, reiterating its forecasts from Thursday. 

In northwest India, 'very heavy' rainfall is only expected over Uttarakhand Monday and Tuesday, while 'heavy' rainfall is seen over many states including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and parts of Uttar Pradesh over the next few days. For the rest of northwest India, comprising Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Rajasthan, IMD sees 'scattered' rainfall. 

For Delhi, IMD has forecast light-to-moderate rains over many places till evening, and very light to light showers over a few places at night. The department has not forecast any rainfall activities over the capital city from Saturday to Monday.  

In central India, IMD expects 'very heavy' rainfall over east Madhya Pradesh on Friday and then later Thursday next week. However, 'heavy' rainfall is expected over many parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh till Thursday. In west India, comprising Gujarat and Maharashtra, IMD sees only scattered rainfall till Thursday, and subdued rainfall is expected to continue over south India for next week.  End
