NEW DELHI – India's wireless mobile subscriber base rose by 5.54 million in July to 1.29 billion, compared with a net addition of 5.38 million in June, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Friday. Bharti Airtel Ltd. added more mobile users than Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. in July, with 2.69 million additions against RJio's 2.45 million.

 

Among major operators, Reliance Jio added 2.45 million mobile users in July, higher than the 2.15 million added in June. Bharti Airtel added 2.69 million users, compared with 3 million in June. Vodafone Idea Ltd. added 240,114 mobile users in July, against 163,757 in June, while Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. added 168,874 users, compared with 94,006 in the previous month. 
 

Private telecom operators held 92.75% of the wireless mobile subscriber market at the end of July, while state-owned BSNL and MTNL together held 7.25%, as per the data. Reliance Jio held the largest share of the mobile subscriber market at 39.29% at the end of July, followed by Bharti Airtel at 38.01% and Vodafone Idea at 15.46%. BSNL and MTNL held 7.23% and 0.01%, respectively. 

 

Urban subscribers increased by 4.48 million to 753.86 million in July, while rural subscribers rose by 1.54 million to 552.40 million. Urban subscribers grew 0.60% month-on-month, compared with 0.28% growth in rural subscribers. Urban subscribers accounted for 57.71% of the wireless base, while rural subscribers accounted for 42.29%.   End
