Jal Shakti min urges states to integrate rural water and sanitation works

NEW DELHI – The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, has urged states and union territories to integrate works under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 and Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen 2.0 with the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Grameen) Act, 2025, the Ministry of Jal Shakti said Thursday. The initiative is a collaboration between the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Ministry of Rural Development.
The convergence aims to strengthen rural water security, sanitation, and climate resilience through integrated planning under Viksit Gram Panchayat Plans, the ministry said in a statement to the press. States have been asked to prioritise water security, align village plans under the three programmes, and geo-tag relevant works on the Viksit Bharat National Rural Infrastructure Stack.
The ministry has also urged states to use geospatial planning tools, water budgeting, and hydroecological assessments to support implementation, the ministry said. It added that the convergence would help ensure sustainable drinking water services, improve rural livelihoods and strengthen ecological and climate resilience. End
