MUMBAI – The Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association has confirmed a comfortable sugar supply outlook, supported by adequate domestic availability, improving market conditions and fresh supplies expected from the upcoming crushing season, the association said in a release.

Sugar prices have corrected by nearly 20% from recent highs. The correction is expected to extend as festive buying stabilises and fresh sugar becomes available in the near term, the release added. Special crushing has also started in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka amid efforts to begin the sugar year 2026-27 (Oct-Sept) in 10-15 days.

"The market is already showing encouraging signs of stabilisation, with sugar prices correcting significantly from recent levels," Niraj Shirgaokar, President, ISMA, said. "We have adequate availability, and fresh production will begin adding to supplies shortly. The measures taken by the Government, together with an earlier start to crushing, should further strengthen the market as we move through the festive period and into the new sugar season," Shirgaokar said.

The recent firmness in sugar prices reflected a combination of seasonal demand, compounded with weather-related impact on production in certain regions, international price movements, and market sentiment, according to the association. With fresh-season production approaching, additional supply flexibility available and prices already moderating, the association expects market conditions to continue normalising over the coming weeks.  End
