India Thursday rainfall 28% below normal; season-to-date deficit at 13%, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 5.3 millimetres of rainfall Thursday, 28?low the normal of 7.4 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1-Aug. 27, the country received 583.2 millimetres of showers, 13?low the season's normal of 672.1 millimetres.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three recorded below-normal rainfall Thursday while one, the northwest, recorded normal rainfall. East and northeast, central, and south India registered "deficient" rainfall.
The east and northeast region of India received 6.1 millimetres of precipitation, 43?low its normal of 10.7 millimetres. Central India received 5.7 millimetres of showers, 33?low its normal of 8.5 millimetres. The south peninsula received 2.8 millimetres of rain, 52?low its normal of 5.8 millimetres.
The northwest region of the country received 6.1 millimetres of rainfall, 11?ove its normal of 5.5 millimetres. Six out of nine subdivisions in the region recorded either "deficient" or "large deficient" rainfall while the remaining three recorded "large excess" or "excess". West Uttar Pradesh received 206?ove its normal at 20.2 millimetres of rainfall, the highest in the northwest region, followed by east Uttar Pradesh, which received 14.2 millimetres of rain, 105?ove its normal.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, all received rainfall. Sixteen received "large deficient" rainfall, 10 got "deficient" rainfall, and three received "normal" rainfall. Four subdivisions registered a "large excess" while three registered "excess" showers, according to the data. End
