NEW DELHI – Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal's visit to Japan will help India get 10 trillion yen (around INR 6 trillion) in Japanese private investment over the next decade, the commerce ministry said in a release. Goyal urged Japanese institutional investors and companies to participate in India's next phase of growth, particularly in manufacturing, infrastructure, financial services, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and clean energy, as per the release.

During the visit, which ended Thursday, Goyal held discussions with senior Japanese government officials, financial institutions, and business executives, including the leaderships of more than 30 major Japanese companies and financial institutions with growing interests in India, according to the ministry. He also chaired sector-specific roundtable conferences on capital goods, machinery and automotive, semiconductors and artificial intelligence, startups, and foreign institutional investors, it added.

At the semiconductor and artificial intelligence roundtable, Goyal highlighted India's ambition to build a globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem with semiconductor demand projected to reach $150 billion by 2032, the ministry said. "India's large pool of skilled and young talent, combined with Japan's cutting-edge technology, engineering expertise, and manufacturing capabilities, can catalyse a world-class semiconductor and technology revolution in India," the minister said.

Goyal held discussions with Japan's Minister of Economy Akazawa Ryosei as well as senior representatives of Japan External Trade Organisation, Japan Bank for International Cooperation, and Japan International Cooperation Agency. The discussions covered trade and investment, resilient supply chains, and manufacturing cooperation, the ministry said.  End
