NEW DELHI – Odisha is likely to receive isolated 'heavy' to 'very heavy' rainfall for the rest of the month, which is seen subsiding to 'heavy' rains till Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said. Meanwhile, other east India states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, and parts of West Bengal are forecast to receive 'heavy' rainfall till month-end.
IMD said an upper air cyclonic circulation is lying over parts of the Bay of Bengal and the north Odisha coast. "Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over the same region around 29th August," it said. Amid the influence of this weather system, most east India states are expected to receive heavy or very heavy rainfall, while moderate-to-severe lightning activity is expected over Jharkhand Friday and Bihar till Saturday. Amid unfavourable weather conditions, IMD has advised people to regulate onshore and offshore activities.
In northwest India, 'very heavy' rainfall is forecast over west Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Thursday, IMD said, issuing low to moderate flash flood risks in many districts of these places till Friday. Flash flood risks are seen over Uttarakhand districts including Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Garhwal Pauri, Nainital and others.
Meanwhile, IMD expects 'heavy' rainfall intermittently over east Uttar Pradesh till Wednesday. The same rainfall conditions are forecast over Himachal Pradesh from Sunday to Wednesday. The department has issued low to moderate flash flood risks in many districts of east Uttar Pradesh, such as Kanpur City, Unnao, Banda, Fatehpur, Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, Pratapgarh and Rae Bareilly for the next 24 hours.
In central India, 'heavy' intermittent rainfall is expected over east Madhya Pradesh on Friday and Saturday, and later on Tuesday and Wednesday. Due to the heavy rains expected in the day, IMD has issued flash flood risks for east Madhya Pradesh districts such as Panna, Chhatarpur, Satna, and Rewa till Friday. Meanwhile, 'heavy' rainfall is expected in a stretch over Chhattisgarh till Wednesday.
IMD does not see 'heavy' or 'very heavy' rainfall over west India, comprising Gujarat and Maharashtra, for the next five to six days. In south India, only Kerala and Mahe are expected to receive heavy rainfall Thursday. "Subdued rainfall activity likely to continue over Peninsular India during the next one week," it added. End
