MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of Uttar Pradesh and western Madhya Pradesh Wednesday under the influence of a low-pressure area. Districts in southwestern Uttar Pradesh, including Etawah, Jhansi, Lalitpur and Datia in northwest Madhya Pradesh are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall Wednesday. IMD has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in districts in these regions. 

 

A trough runs from the centre of the low-pressure area over south Uttar Pradesh and adjoining northeast Madhya Pradesh to the northeast Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, northwestern parts of the country are likely to receive isolated heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand through Tuesday, while parts of Uttar Pradesh are likely to receive heavy rainfall from Thursday. 

 

An upper-air cyclonic circulation lies over south Madhya Maharashtra. Under its influence, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday and over eastern Uttar Pradesh then from Friday to Monday, the weather bureau said. 

 

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam and adjoining areas. The northeastern region is likely to receive isolated heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and neighbouring states through Sunday, the department said. Isolated, very heavy rainfall is also likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and neighbouring regions on Sunday.

 

A Western Disturbance, in the form of a cyclonic circulation, lies over north Haryana and adjoining areas. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to receive heavy rainfall through Friday. Very heavy rainfall is also likely over Odisha from Saturday to Monday.

 

An upper-air cyclonic circulation lies over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts. Under its influence, the southern peninsular region is expected to see isolated thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, with speeds of 40–50 kilometres per hour over Tamil Nadu, Karaikal and Puducherry through Thursday. Kerala and Mahe are expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall through Thursday.

 

An upper-air cyclonic circulation lies over south Madhya Maharashtra. Under its influence, Konkan and Goa are expected to see fairly widespread to widespread rainfall through Tuesday. Subdued rainfall activity is expected to continue over peninsular India in the near-term, the weather department said. End
