MUMBAI – The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India Tuesday directed Star Health and Allied Insurance Co. Ltd. to comply with the regulator's norms on portability of policies and settlement of claims. According to an exchange filing Wednesday, the regulator has also directed Star Health to review specific portability-related claims from the financial year 2024-25 (Apr-Mar) to FY26. The regulator has asked the company to submit a report on the compliance with the same within four months, the filing said.

IRDAI has directed Star Health "to take appropriate action where considered necessary in line with applicable policy terms" on reviewing the defined category of cases, the filing said. The insurance company said it will adhere to the directions. Any resulting financial impact due to the directions is seen to be limited. There is no impact expected on the operations or other activities of the company, it said.

In July 2025, the regulator had fined the insurer INR 34 million for breaching information and cybersecurity norms. Earlier that year, Star Health had called the media reports, stating that IRDAI had found lapses in the claim settlement process of the company, "speculative and motivated in nature."

The health insurance company reported a net profit of INR 5.50 billion in the June quarter, with total insurance sales in the quarter at INR 49.2 billion. At 1312 IST, its shares traded up 0.2% at INR 584.25 apiece on the National Stock Exchange.  End
