MUMBAI – India recorded 8.2 millimetres of rain Tuesday, 15%  above the normal of 7.1 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Aug. 25, the country received 572.4 millimetres of rain, 13%  below the normal of 657.8 millimetres for the period.

 

Of the country's four homogeneous regions, north west India, central India, and south India received "excess" rains Tuesday. East and northeast India registered "normal" rains Tuesday.

 

The east and northeast region received 16?low normal rainfall at 9.1 millimetres and central India recorded 9.6 millimetres of rainfall, 29% above normal. Meanwhile, south India received 33% above-normal rains at 7.2 millimetres and northwest India recorded 6.7 millimetres of rainfall, 20%  above normal. 

 

Tuesday, Kerala and Mahe received the highest rainfall at 43.4 millimetres, followed by Chhattisgarh at 26.2 millimetres, according to the weather bureau's data. Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 11, "large deficient" in 10, "deficient" in nine, "excess" in two, and "normal" in three. There was no rain in one sub-division, according to the data.  End
