Domestic finished steel output up 4% YoY at 14 mln tonnes in July

NEW DELHI – Domestic finished steel production grew 3.9% on year to 14 million tonnes in July, data from the Ministry of Steel showed. Domestic crude steel output rose nearly 2% to 14.4 million tonnes and hot metal production was 8.4 million tonnes, up 6.3%.
For Apr-Jul, finished steel production grew 4.7% on year to 54.7 million tonnes. Hot metal production rose 2.7% to 31.9 million tonnes and crude steel production increased 2.4% to 56.2 million tonnes. The combined annual crude steel capacity of Steel Authority of India Ltd., Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd., NMDC Steel Ltd., Tata Steel Ltd., ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel, Jindal Steel Ltd., and JSW Steel Ltd. was 117.4 million tonnes. The crude steel production of these seven companies was 31.3 million tonnes and hot metal output was 29.7 million tonnes in Apr-Jul. The finished steel production of these seven companies was 29.3 million tonnes during the period.
Among states, Odisha accounted for 19.6% of crude steel production in Apr-Jul at 11.04 million tonnes and Chhattisgarh accounted for 14.6% at 8.23 million tonnes. Jharkhand accounted for 11.9% of crude steel output at 6.67 million tonnes, followed by Karnataka, which accounted for 10.4% at 5.82 million tonnes. West Bengal's crude steel production was 5.39 million tonnes, and other states accounted for 33.9% of output at 19.04 million tonnes.
In July, the production of alloy steel grew 22.7% on year to 982,600 tonnes. The import of alloy steel fell 17.8%, while exports rose over four times. The production of stainless steel declined over 9% to 352,600 tonnes. Imports of stainless steel jumped over 171%, while exports declined more than 7%.
In July, the country's finished steel exports jumped 44% on year to 699,300 tonnes, and imports grew 9.5% to 702,300 tonnes. China remained the top exporter to India with 855,800 tonnes in finished steel volumes. On the other hand, Vietnam was the top export destination for India with 354,000 tonnes in finished steel volumes. End
