NEW DELHI – Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal called for deeper business-to-business partnership between India and Japan. On the first day of his four-day visit to the island nation, he highlighted the improving ease of doing business in India and the opportunities emerging from the country's rapidly expanding economy.

 

While addressing the apex economic organisation representing more than 1,500 leading Japanese companies, Goyal said the India-Japan partnership has expanded beyond traditional trade to areas like economic security, defence, supply-chain resilience, technology, innovation, and clean energy. He invited Japanese investors to scale up their commitment to India and double the number of Japanese companies operating in the country, according to a government release.

 

Goyal held business meetings with the leaderships of Sumitomo Corp., Meiji Seika Pharma Co. Ltd., Mitsubishi Corp., Tokyo Electron Ltd., and MinebeaMitsumi, Inc. The minister also met two companies at the forefront of semiconductor manufacturing, the release said. He also held a meeting with Ichikawa Keiichi, secretary general of Japan's National Security Secretariat, Cabinet Office, at the Kantei, underlining the strategic dimension of the bilateral relationship alongside its economic dimension.

 

Highlighting the immense scope of collaboration between the two countries in capital goods, machinery, automotive and advanced manufacturing, Goyal invited Japanese companies to deepen their presence in India in these sectors. He participated in a fireside chat moderated by Nikkei Asia, attended by members of the business community and media from India and Japan.

 

Goyal, arrived in Tokyo Monday to lead India's business delegation to Japan, comprising over 200 representatives from various sectors, including manufacturing, semiconductors, clean energy, steel, automotive, financial services, healthcare, and start-ups.  End
